September Meeting

September Meeting
Brewer/Owner, Alex Ganum will be hosting PDX Brewers at Upright Brewing on Monday September 20th at 7pm: http://www.uprightbrewing.com/ We'll spend the first 10 minutes on club business. Then, we'll tour the brewery to learn how Alex and his team are making an amazing array of lagers and ales, including sours and farmhouse style ales due to the brewery's capacity for open fermentation. If you are not a fan of Belgian-styles, fear not. Alex also makes a German Pils with a unique hop profile. It's like a tie-dyed version of Bitburger; lots of color in this interpretation of a german classic.
Upright Brewing is located in the basement of the Left Bank building just on the east side of the Broadway bridge. They are located at 240 N Broadway, suite 2, Portland OR 97227. There will likely still be construction in the area so park either in front of the Left Bank building or on Flint street just north of Left Bank; it has plenty of free street parking.
After some talking and tasting, we'll have the opportunity to take some beer home. Alex sells his beer in 750ml bottles only. Because of limited space, only members in good standing (membership dues paid-up) prior to the meeting are allowed to. No guests please.

Sorry that the info was never posted, we had a meeting about it last week, and then I left town until last night.
There is a meeting, Monday July 19th at Max's Fanno Creek in Tigard, at the 7pm. Lynette will be doing a class on cooking with beer, with a possible side class on sanitation. As you are aware, there will be no tasters, but beer is always available at the pub. We will also discuss what the plans are, and the progress made in the fight for the change in the law. Sorry for the late information. Garrett

Our August meeting will be on August 16th at 7:00 pm at Max's Fanno Creek in Tigard. The class this month will be on specific grains and hops, and why we choose one over the other. Please join us, as we learn how to decide what grains and hops will best suit particular beer styles. Also, if you were one of the recipients of the yeast project, the logs for them are due at this meeting. It is also planned that hops will be distributed at this meeting for the challenge, so if you want be part of that challenge, you should be at the meeting
New Club Rules

I regret to inform you all that there has been a drastic change to the way we will be handling our meetings. Home brewed beverages may not be brought to the meetings or any club event. Brewing events can happen as long as you are moving the wort without yeast in it. Without that critical component, it is not beer. This way we may be able to continue some of our normal functions, but not all aspects of those functions. Our meetings will still be focused on brewing techniques, beer identification and commercial tasters for styles. As for AHA Club Only competitions, I am not sure how we can go about participating in these events, but am happy to hear any ideas regarding this issue. Until further notice, we will not honor the clubs practice of awarding HBOTY points for bringing home brew to a meeting or club function. More info will be passed along as information comes in, but until the wording in the law can be changed, we can not support, endorse, require, or in any other way ask that you bring home brew to any club event. If anybody would like to volunteer to help get this law rewritten, please contact me at
